Top 50 Best Films of 2024

It’s that time of year again and here we go.

The year 2023 was possibly one of the worst year for films. Major disappointments left and right with nothing really truly notable. Hopefully this year will be better. They just don’t make em like they use to. But maybe this year will be different.

The overly confident Fujino and the shut-in Kyomoto couldn't be more different, but a love of drawing manga brings these two small-town girls together.

DirectorKiyotaka OshiyamaStarsErin YvetteYumi KawaiKayleigh McKee

Yeah it is the best film of the year for me. Plain and simple. Whatever criteria it takes for anyone to clarify what makes a good movie this does more than to fit that bill. Nothing truly to add other than it is a type of experience that requires you to sit with and fully appreciate all that is happening before our eyes.

Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as his parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.

DirectorSean BakerStarsMikey MadisonPaul WeissmanLindsey Normington

Yeah it was the best movie of the year for me for about a day then I saw Look Back. But still this is Baker’s best movie and one that has stood with me more than any of his previous movies. This has a longer lasting effect and impact than something like Red Rocket. This is faster, funnier, more engaging, and a full blown ride one that I didn’t want to get off. Mikey Madison is without a doubt should win for best lead actress but she might have some tough competition. This second half goes into a direction that I geared up and anticipated so much from and this second half delivered in more ways to one.

The most fun and exhilarating type of horror fair that I fell in love with. From the opening onward this movie lit off like a rocket with no sign of slowing down. Filled to the brim with excellent performances directing that is on par with some season veterans who have been doing this for ages and an ending that makes me drop everything and say I want to see that third Smile movie now.

Hated part 1 but Denis is still amongst the best living directors out there so let’s see.

Always bet on Denis. Holy shit did this man deliver in more ways than one. One after another of a great example of a director who is finally discovering that plot matters. All you need is good acting to bring about this story without being bogged down with part 1 syndrome. This is a middle chapter that stands on its own. It is a straight shot full blown epic in every sense of the word.

Upon first viewing I knew I had already fallen in love with this one. Then came the second time and it still hit hard and even surpasses those feelings I had the first time. Best horror film of the year. Directors are getting better with the way to convey very mundane everyday things. And this is a prime example of that. Not one frame is boring, not one scene drags on, and not one performance is wasted. Except which is the only reason why this doesn’t get a 10 and that is Marquette Qually who honestly just doesn’t do it for me in this movie.

Saw the first 3 episodes early and I have to say this might be my favorite show of the year. Period. No distinction between a live action show or an anime show. No just straight up my favorite show of the year period. I love the manga and I love this show. This is how you do platonic relationships well with still the caveat that things might change in the future. And if they do then I am all here for it. Too much to put into words as to how much I really appreciated this newest season of Monsters.
